IC Tray

Learn how Gee Hoe Seng Pte Ltd (GHS) handles the reuse and recycling of IC trays in Singapore responsibly and efficiently.

IC trays — also known as semiconductor trays — are specialized packaging materials used to protect integrated circuits (ICs) during transportation and storage. Typically made from high-grade plastics such as polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), these trays are designed for durability, static protection, and reusability.

At GHS, we promote reuse before recycling — extending the lifespan of usable trays through refurbishment and ensuring that end-of-life trays are processed in an environmentally responsible manner.

Is it Recyclable?

Yes — IC trays are both reusable and recyclable.

IC trays can often be refurbished and reused before they reach the recycling stage. Clean, undamaged trays are refurbished for secondary use, while broken or contaminated ones are sent for material recovery.

At GHS, all IC tray recycling and reuse activities are carried out in compliance with NEA environmental regulations to ensure traceability, safety, and circular use of resources.

Why and What Parts Can Be Recycled?

Discover how IC trays can be reused or recycled, the materials that can be recovered, and the factors that affect their recyclability.

Here’s why recycling works

  • Recycling allows recovery of plastics for future applications.
Recyclable
  • IC trays
  • Clean, undamaged, or refurbishable trays

What limits recyclability

  • Label adhesives and stickers contaminate the recycling process.
  • Mixed plastic compositions (unidentified blends) no recovery value.
Not Recyclable
  • Trays with labels, stickers, or tape attached
  • Mixed plastics or trays

Note: Before collection, remove all labels and stickers, and ensure trays are clean, dry, and free from debris.

⚠️ Additional Information
1) Loads containing mixed plastics or contaminated trays may incur disposal charges to cover sorting costs.
2) Destruction certificates are available upon request and subject to additional charges.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Remove stickers and labels – Clean off all adhesive residues.

  • Inspect trays – Ensure trays are not cracked.

  • Keep clean and dry – Prevent dust and residue buildup.

  • Do not send labeled or contaminated trays — these require cleaning before they can be reused or recycled.
