Mixed Copper Wire

Learn how Gee Hoe Seng Pte Ltd (GHS) handles the recycling of mixed copper wires in Singapore responsibly and efficiently.

Copper is one of the most valuable and sustainable metals in the recycling industry, prized for its excellent conductivity and durability.

Mixed copper wire recycling allows valuable copper to be recovered from assorted insulated wires of different sizes and types — helping reduce waste and conserve natural resources.

Is it Recyclable?

Yes — mixed copper wires are recyclable.

Mixed copper wires typically include assorted insulated wires, sometimes with plugs or connectors attached. At GHS, we process and recover copper from both insulated and non-insulated wires, ensuring contaminants are removed and the material is recycled.

Why and What Parts Can Be Recycled?

Discover how recycling mixed copper wires contributes to resource recovery and reduces electrical waste in Singapore.

Here’s why recycling works

  • Copper retains its value and conductivity even after multiple recycling cycles.
Recyclable
  • Mixed insulated copper wires (with or without attachments)
  • Clean wire offcuts and cable trimmings

What limits recyclability

  • Contaminants such as rubber bands, cable ties, or dirt.
  • Burnt insulation that damages copper quality.
Not Recyclable
  • Wires with plastic packaging, rubber bands, or tape attached
  • Burnt or contaminated wires

Note: You do not need to strip insulation or remove plugs. Simply ensure all wires are clean, dry, and free from contaminants before collection.

Additional Information
1) Loads containing mixed materials or contamination (e.g. plastic, rubber, tape) may be subjected to reduced weight valuation.
2) Stripped tinned copper wires are generally more valuable as they require less processing. Insulated wires remain fully recyclable, but are valued lower due to the extra effort needed for insulation removal.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Sort the wires – Separate by wire types when possible

  • Remove contaminants – Detach plastic bags, cable ties, and rubber bands before collection.

  • Store properly – Keep items in a dry, sheltered area before collection to prevent corrosion or contamination.

  • Do not burn insulation – Burning to remove plastic damages copper and makes it non-recyclable.
