Telecommunication Data Cable Wire

Learn how Gee Hoe Seng Pte Ltd (GHS) handles the recycling and disposal of telecommunication and data cables in Singapore responsibly and efficiently.

Proper recycling of cables and wires not only reduces e-waste but also allows for the recovery of valuable metals such as copper, supporting a more sustainable and circular electronics industry.

Is it Recyclable?

Yes — telecommunication and data cables are recyclable, but not as a whole bundle.

Each cable contains a mix of metallic cores and non-metallic insulation (plastic or rubber), which must be separated before processing.

At GHS, we recycle all types of data cables, Ethernet cables (Cat 5, Cat 6), and telecommunication wires, ensuring that plastic insulation and contaminants are removed prior to metal recovery.

Why and What Parts Can Be Recycled?

Discover how data cable recycling supports sustainable IT infrastructure and helps recover valuable resources.

Here’s why recycling works

  • Cables contain high-grade copper conductors that can be extracted and reused.
  • Connectors and metal ends (e.g., RJ-45, LAN jacks) can be processed for metal recovery.
Recyclable
  • Copper wire cores

What limits recyclability

  • Plastic-metal composites that cannot be fully separated for recovery.
  • Cables contaminated with non-metal materials such as rubber bands, tape, or plastic wrapping.
  • Burnt or degraded insulation that affects the recovery of copper or aluminum.
Not Recyclable
  • Contaminated or burnt cables
  • Cables bundled with plastic bags, strings, or cable ties

Note: You do not need to strip insulation or remove attachments such as heads, jacks, or ports. Simply ensure all cables are clean, dry, and free from contaminants before collection.

Additional Information
1) Some recyclable telecommunication or data cables may incur handling or disposal charges to cover collection, sorting, and processing costs — especially for wires containing packaging materials.
2) Certificates of Recycling are available upon request and subject to additional charges.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Remove contaminants – Detach all plastic packaging, cable ties, strings and rubber bands before collection. Cables should be clean and free from non-metal materials.

  • Sort by type – Separate data cables, power cables, and mixed wires if possible, to improve processing efficiency.

  • Do not strip insulation – You do not need to remove cable coverings or metal heads (e.g. jacks or ports). Our team will handle sorting and separation at our facility.
