PE Film & Pallet Stretch Wrap

Learn how Gee Hoe Seng Pte Ltd (GHS) handles the recycling of PE film and pallet stretch film in Singapore responsibly and efficiently.

PE (polyethylene) film and pallet stretch wrap are widely used in logistics and packaging to secure goods during transport and storage. While they play an important role in protecting products, these films are also one of the most common sources of plastic waste.

At GHS, we help businesses recycle PE film and stretch wrap safely and effectively, ensuring that clean materials are collected, processed, and converted into reusable resources — supporting both environmental sustainability and cost savings.

Is it Recyclable?

Yes — PE film and pallet stretch wrap are recyclable.

These materials are made primarily from low-density polyethylene (LDPE) which is recyclable when clean and uncontaminated.

At GHS, we accept and process clear and clean PE film, ensuring that waste plastics are responsibly recovered.

Why and What Parts Can Be Recycled?

Discover which types of PE film can be recycled, how the recycling process works, and what limits recyclability.

Here’s why recycling works

  • Recycling reduces plastic waste sent to incineration and helps conserve petroleum-based raw materials.
  • PE film can be melted and reprocessed into plastic flakes for reuse in packaging and manufacturing.
Recyclable
  • Clear pallet stretch film (LDPE)
  • Transparent PE shrink wrap used for packaging
  • Clean, uncontaminated PE film

What limits recyclability

  • Printed or colored films are harder to process and generally have little to no recycling value due to ink pigments and dyes that contaminate recycled resin.
  • Mixed-material wraps that combine different plastic types cannot be separated efficiently, making them unsuitable for recycling.
Not Recyclable
  • Non-PE packaging films such as PVC, PET, PP, or multilayer laminates
  • Printed films used for consumer packaging
  • PE film with stickers, labels, or paper still attached
  • Dirty or oil-contaminated film

Note: Only polyethylene-based film (LDPE) can be recycled through GHS. Not all packaging or wrapping materials are PE — some contain mixed or non-recyclable plastics such as PVC, PET, or laminated layers.

Additional Information
Loads containing mixed plastics, stickers, or labels may incur disposal charges to cover sorting costs.

Educational Tip
Recyclable PE films are usually clear, flexible, and stretchable. If the film feels stiff, glossy, or printed, it’s likely non-PE and should not be mixed with recyclable film.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Sort the materials – Separate PE film from other plastics, paper, or metal strapping.

  • Remove stickers and labels – Peel off any adhesive residue, paper, or tape.

  • Ensure the film is clean and dry – Avoid oil, food, or liquid contamination.

  • Compact for handling – Bundle or bale film neatly to save space during transport.

  • Do not send printed, colored, or contaminated PE film.
