Yes — office papers and documents are recyclable.

White printing paper, copier paper, and reports are made from high-quality fibers that can be reused to produce new paper products.

However, mixing coloured paper, plastic folders, or binders can reduce recycling quality and value.

Why and What Parts Can Be Recycled?

Here’s why recycling works

  • Paper fibers can be recycled into new paper products.
  • White paper produces high-grade recycled pulp for printing or writing paper.
  • Sorting at the source ensures cleaner, more efficient recovery.
Recyclable
  • White copier and printing paper
  • Lightly printed documents and report sheets (if sorted separately)
  • Coloured papers (if sorted separately)

What limits recyclability

  • Coloured papers mixed with white papers reduce the overall grade.
  • Large attachments (e.g. binders, folders, plastic sleeves) disrupt processing.
Not Recyclable
  • Plastic folders, archfiles, laminates, or coated cards
  • Rubber bands, strings, or plastic covers

Note: Staples and small paper clips do not need to be removed. Larger plastic or metal attachments, however, must be removed.

Additional Information
1) Loads containing mixed or contaminated papers may be accepted but processed as low-grade paper, resulting in lower recycling value.
2) Mixed paper loads with non-paper contaminants may incur handling or sorting charges.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Sort papers by grade – Separate white and coloured papers where possible.

  • Remove all attachments – Take off binders, archfiles, plastic covers, or rubber bands.

  • Do not include laminated paper, plastic folders, or food-stained documents.
