Medical Equipment

Learn how Gee Hoe Seng Pte Ltd (GHS) responsibly collects, dismantles, and recycles laboratory instruments, medical equipment, and hospital devices in Singapore.

Proper recycling and disposal of medical equipment not only prevents environmental harm but also enables the recovery of valuable metals and components, supporting a more sustainable and circular healthcare sector.

Is it Recyclable?

Yes — medical equipment is recyclable, but not as a whole unit.

Most medical devices contain a combination of metal, plastic, glass, and electronic components that must be dismantled and sorted before processing.

At GHS, we handle the collection, dismantling, and recycling of clean and decommissioned medical equipment.

Why and What Types Can Be Recycled

Discover which medical devices can be recovered and how proper recycling supports Singapore’s healthcare sustainability goals.

Here’s why recycling works

  • Many medical devices contain stainless steel and aluminum, which can be extracted and reused.
  • Circuit boards, wiring, and power units contain recyclable metals and electronic components.
  • GHS collaborates with downstream partners who ensure environmentally responsible recovery of materials.
Recyclable
  • CT Scanners
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Machines
  • Ultrasound Machines
  • Laboratory Centrifuges
  • Examination Scopes
  • Microscopes
  • Imaging and Diagnostic Equipment

What limits recyclability

  • Composite materials — Many instruments are made of combined plastic, glass, and metal components that cannot be efficiently separated for material recovery.
  • Biohazard or contamination — Equipment exposed to bodily fluids, pathogens, or chemical residues must be treated as regulated medical waste and cannot enter recycling streams.
  • Rubber and PVC tubing — Flexible materials and soft plastics are generally non-recyclable.
Not Recyclable
  • Radioactive, contaminated, or biohazardous equipment requiring specialized treatment.

Note: GHS does not perform decontamination or discharging of radioactive equipment. All items must be cleared of radiation risk prior to collection.

Additional Information
1) Some recyclable medical or laboratory equipment may incur disposal charges to cover collection, handling, and proper processing costs.
2)
Destruction certificates are available upon request and subject to additional charges.

How to Prepare Before Collection / Drop-Off

  • Ensure equipment is cleared for disposal — confirm that all biohazard or radioactive materials have been discharged.
  • You do not need to dismantle the equipment — simply set it aside for our team to collect, sort, and process accordingly.

  • Do not send contaminated or radioactive devices. Only cleared, decontaminated equipment will be accepted for recycling.
